45° Mitre Joint for Riser-Stringer-Connection

With Compass Software it is now possible to cut mitre joints for riser connections at 45° angles, which will be of particular interest to our American and English customers.

In the Anglo-American countries, open stringers are sometimes connected to risers at a 45° angle. In the software, it is now possible to cut this connection in two processing steps to suit these (thinner) risers. In the first step, the stringer is milled to the thickness of the riser using a 3-axis machining step. Any desired assembly clearance can be added. In the second step, the miter is milled with the cutter tip at a 45° angle in a single infeed. The overmilling of the miter is freely adjustable. The system automatically adjusts the direction of the cut to achieve a tear-free result.

The result of this process is a perfectly fitting riser mitre with a straight bottom edge. This makes the installation of the risers much easier. The bottom edge provides an accurate stop for the riser. In addition, the riser/stringer connection can be better secured to the straight surface behind. This increases the stability of the staircase.

The new operation “Only mill tip of mitre joint” makes the installation of the stairs much easier and faster, improves the stability of the staircase, and gives a tear-free result.
