Obituary Detlef Hollinderbaeumer

We are mourning our long-time CEO Detlef Hollinderbaeumer.

Detlef peacefully passed away after a short, severe illness on the night of July 12, 2022.

Detlef has been an integral part in the leadership and development of our company ever since the founding of the predecessor-company to the current Compass Software GmbH. As our CEO, he has been safely leading the company with thought and foresight through sometimes difficult times for almost 30 years. His values internally and externally have always been integrity, appreciation, and respect for each other and for the customers. He emphasized an open and honest communication.

Detlef’s dedication to the company and its employees was complete. During the first years, Detlef was heavily involved in the development of CNC technology for stair building. In 1984, the company managed to connect the first CNC machine, an absolute technological breakthrough at the time. Soon, the team added more innovations, such as the development of 5 axis technology, the 3-dimentional visualization of stair designs, and wreath processing on 5 axis machines. He spent many nights and weekends working.

But Detlef was much more than a boss to many of us. Some coworkers remember playing squash with Detlef on Sunday nights or celebrating birthdays, weddings, and other occasions together. The above average company loyalty of many Compass Software employees is a testament to the respect and understanding that Detlef gave his staff. He always had an open ear for our concerns.

We are in disbelief and saddened about the death of our CEO. We are not only loosing a visionary and brilliant developer, but first and foremost a unique friend. Our deepest condolences are going to his wife, his children, and their families, whom we wish much strength in these difficult times.

Detlef leaves a huge gap in our company, personally and skill-wise.

We will miss him dearly!
